A hearty, oven-baked casserole of seasoned ground beef patties, onions, and creamy gravy — inspired by Amish home cooking. Pure comfort in every bite.
1½ lbs ground beef
1 egg
½ cup breadcrumbs
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1 medium onion, sliced
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or chicken soup
½ cup milk or beef broth
¼ cup sour cream (optional)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Optional base: 2–3 cups cooked egg noodles or thinly sliced potatoes
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13 baking dish.
Mix ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire, and seasonings. Form into 6 oval patties.
Sear patties in a skillet for 2–3 minutes per side.
Arrange patties in the baking dish. Top with sliced onions.
Mix soup, milk (and sour cream if using). Pour over patties.
Cover with foil and bake for 35–40 minutes.
If adding cheese, uncover and top with cheese. Bake another 10 minutes uncovered.
