A classic Amish-inspired casserole featuring tender ground beef patties baked in a creamy mushroom sauce. Rustic, hearty, and perfect for cozy family dinners.
1 to 1.5 lbs ground beef
1 egg
½ cup breadcrumbs
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp garlic powder
1 small onion, sliced
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
½ cup milk
1 tsp dried parsley
1–2 medium potatoes, thinly sliced (optional)
Butter or oil for greasing
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13 baking dish.
In a bowl, mix ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powders. Form into 4–6 patties.
Optional: brown patties in skillet 2–3 minutes per side.
Layer sliced potatoes and onion in the baking dish. Place patties on top.
Whisk together mushroom soup, milk, and parsley. Pour over patties.
Cover with foil and bake 35–40 minutes. Uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and patties are cooked through.
Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
Add cheddar cheese for a twist.
Use ground turkey or chicken if preferred.
Pairs well with mashed potatoes or green beans.
