A classic Amish-inspired casserole featuring tender ground beef patties baked in a creamy mushroom sauce. Rustic, hearty, and perfect for cozy family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 to 1.5 lbs ground beef

  • 1 egg

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

  • ½ cup milk

  • 1 tsp dried parsley

  • 12 medium potatoes, thinly sliced (optional)

  • Butter or oil for greasing

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13 baking dish.

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powders. Form into 4–6 patties.

  • Optional: brown patties in skillet 2–3 minutes per side.

  • Layer sliced potatoes and onion in the baking dish. Place patties on top.

  • Whisk together mushroom soup, milk, and parsley. Pour over patties.

  • Cover with foil and bake 35–40 minutes. Uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and patties are cooked through.

  • Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Add cheddar cheese for a twist.

  • Use ground turkey or chicken if preferred.

  • Pairs well with mashed potatoes or green beans.
