A hearty Amish-style casserole featuring seared ground beef patties baked in a creamy mushroom sauce over a base of potatoes or noodles. Classic comfort food with timeless flavor.
1½ lbs ground beef (80/20 or lean)
1 egg
½ cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)
¼ cup minced onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
2 tbsp oil for browning
2 cans (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
½ cup milk or sour cream
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Optional: 2 cups thinly sliced potatoes or 3 cups cooked egg noodles
Optional: ½ cup shredded cheddar or Swiss cheese
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
In a bowl, mix beef, egg, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Shape into 6–8 patties.
Brown patties in a skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes per side.
In a separate bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk or sour cream, and Worcestershire sauce.
Optional: Layer sliced potatoes or noodles in the baking dish.
Place browned patties over the base and pour soup mixture evenly on top.
Optional: Sprinkle shredded cheese.
Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly.
Swap beef with ground turkey or pork.
Add mushrooms, green beans, or spinach for extra flavor and nutrition.
Freeze for up to 2 months; reheat at 350°F until hot.
