A cheesy, crispy, one-pan dinner made with shredded chicken, tangy BBQ ranch sauce, and a golden tater tot topping. Simple, satisfying, and packed with flavor.

2½ cups cooked shredded chicken
1 cup barbecue sauce
⅓ cup ranch dressing or 2 tbsp ranch seasoning
½ cup sour cream or cream cheese
1 small onion, diced (optional)
2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1 (28 oz) bag frozen tater tots
Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.

  • If using, sauté onion and garlic in a greased oven-safe skillet until soft (about 3–4 minutes).

  • Stir in chicken, barbecue sauce, ranch, and sour cream. Heat through.

  • Add 1 cup cheese and mix until smooth.

  • Arrange frozen tater tots in an even layer on top.

  • Bake 30–35 minutes until tots are crispy and filling is hot.

  • Sprinkle remaining cheese on top in final 5 minutes, if desired.

  • Let cool slightly, garnish, and serve warm.
