A hearty, family-style casserole layered with seasoned meatloaf, creamy mashed potatoes, and melty cheddar cheese — baked to bubbly perfection.
1½ lbs ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 egg
½ cup breadcrumbs
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 lbs potatoes, peeled and chopped
4 tbsp butter
½ cup milk
1½–2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Optional: sour cream or cream cheese for mashed potatoes
Optional: parsley, paprika for garnish
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, ketchup, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper.
Press mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Bake for 25–30 minutes.
Meanwhile, boil potatoes until tender. Drain and mash with butter, milk, and seasonings.
Remove meatloaf from oven, drain excess grease. Spread mashed potatoes evenly on top.
Sprinkle with shredded cheese. Bake another 15 minutes until bubbly.
Optional: broil for 2–3 minutes for a golden top. Let rest before serving.
Use ground turkey for a lighter version. Add chopped veggies to the meat mixture. Great for leftovers or make-ahead meals.
