  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tbsp chili powder

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

  • 1 can (15 oz) beans (optional), drained

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar (plus 1 cup more for topping)

  • 1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a 9×13-inch dish.

  • Brown ground beef with onion and garlic. Drain grease.

  • Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, tomato sauce, and beans. Simmer 10–15 minutes.

  • Spread chili in baking dish. Top with 1½ cups shredded cheese.

  • Arrange tater tots in a single layer on top.

  • Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes until tots are golden.

  • Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake 5–10 more minutes.

  • Cool slightly, then serve with optional toppings.
