A cozy, crave-worthy casserole with layers of beefy chili, melted cheese, and crispy golden tater tots — baked to bubbly perfection and perfect for feeding a hungry crowd.
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp salt
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
1 can (15 oz) beans (optional), drained
1½ cups shredded cheddar (plus 1 cup more for topping)
1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots
Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a 9×13-inch dish.
Brown ground beef with onion and garlic. Drain grease.
Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, tomato sauce, and beans. Simmer 10–15 minutes.
Spread chili in baking dish. Top with 1½ cups shredded cheese.
Arrange tater tots in a single layer on top.
Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes until tots are golden.
Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake 5–10 more minutes.
Cool slightly, then serve with optional toppings.
Customize with beans, veggies, or spicy cheese.
