  • ½ lb ground beef

  • 1 tsp oil or butter

  • 1 small onion, chopped

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • ½ cup chopped carrots and/or celery (optional)

  • 1 ½ cups beef broth

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce or 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp pepper

  • ½ tsp dried thyme

For Dumplings:

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 tbsp cold butter

  • ¼ cup milk

  • Optional: fresh herbs

Instructions

  • In a skillet, sauté onion in oil for 4–5 min. Add garlic and cook briefly.

  • Add ground beef; cook until browned. Stir in veggies, seasoning, broth, and Worcestershire.

  • Simmer 5 min.

  • Mix dumpling dough: flour, baking powder, salt, butter, milk. Stir until just combined.

  • Drop spoonfuls onto simmering beef. Cover tightly.

  • Cook 12–14 min without lifting the lid.

  • Serve hot, garnished with herbs.
