½ lb ground beef
1 tsp oil or butter
1 small onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
½ cup chopped carrots and/or celery (optional)
1 ½ cups beef broth
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce or 1 tbsp tomato paste
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
½ tsp dried thyme
For Dumplings:
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
1 tbsp cold butter
¼ cup milk
Optional: fresh herbs
In a skillet, sauté onion in oil for 4–5 min. Add garlic and cook briefly.
Add ground beef; cook until browned. Stir in veggies, seasoning, broth, and Worcestershire.
Simmer 5 min.
Mix dumpling dough: flour, baking powder, salt, butter, milk. Stir until just combined.
Drop spoonfuls onto simmering beef. Cover tightly.
