A quick and flavorful twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, this version uses seasoned ground beef, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted provolone—perfect for busy weeknights or game day gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (85/15 or leaner)

  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced

  • 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 6 slices provolone cheese

  • 4 hoagie rolls

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Optional: red pepper flakes, paprika

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Sauté onions and peppers for 7–8 minutes until softened. Remove and set aside.

  • Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it into crumbles. Drain excess fat.

  • Stir in garlic, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper. Cook 1–2 minutes.

  • Return onions and peppers to the skillet. Mix well.

  • Lay provolone slices over the beef mixture. Cover until melted, then stir to combine.

  • Toast hoagie rolls and spoon the mixture into each roll. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Swap provolone with American or mozzarella if preferred.

  • Add sautéed mushrooms or jalapeños for variation.

  • Keep warm wrapped in foil for parties or meal prep.

  • Serve with fries, chips, or salad.
