Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks are a quick, easy twist on the classic sandwich, made with seasoned ground beef, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted cheese in toasted hoagie rolls.
1 lb ground beef (80/20)
1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced (optional)
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
8 oz provolone or American cheese, sliced or shredded
4 hoagie rolls
1 tbsp oil or butter
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tbsp butter (optional, for toasting rolls
Heat oil or butter in a skillet. Add sliced onion and bell peppers. Sauté until soft and caramelized, about 8–10 minutes. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Return vegetables to the skillet and mix well.
Top with cheese. Cover and cook until melted, then stir to combine.
Toast hoagie rolls if desired. Fill each roll with the beef and cheese mixture.
Serve hot with your favorite sides.
Add mushrooms or jalapeños for variation.
Use Cheez Whiz for a more traditional Philly version.
Store leftover filling in the fridge for up to 3 days.
