A hearty casserole of ground beef, thin-sliced potatoes, onions, creamy sauce, and melted cheese — baked until golden and bubbly. A family favorite for cozy dinners.
1.5 lbs ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp paprika
5–6 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or chicken soup
1/2 cup milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Butter or oil for greasing pan
Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Brown ground beef in a skillet. Add onions and cook until soft. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
In a bowl, mix soup and milk until smooth.
Layer sliced potatoes in baking dish, followed by beef mixture and soup. Repeat layers and top with remaining sauce.
Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top.
Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes. Uncover and bake 20–25 minutes more until bubbly and potatoes are tender.
Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Add corn, peas, or spinach to the beef layer.
Use cream of chicken for a slightly lighter flavor.
Swap in plant-based beef for a vegetarian version.
