  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 45 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced

  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup

  • 1/2 cup milk or cream

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Butter or nonstick spray (for greasing dish)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • In a skillet, brown ground beef with onion. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Drain excess fat.

  • In a bowl, whisk soup and milk until smooth.

  • Layer half the potatoes in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Add half the ground beef mixture, half the soup mix, and half the cheese.

  • Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.

  • Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.

  • Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden.

  • Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
