A hearty, family-friendly casserole made with seasoned ground beef, tender potatoes, creamy soup, and melted cheese — all baked in one comforting dish.
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, diced
3–4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup milk
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Optional: 1/2 tsp paprika
Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Brown ground beef with onion in a skillet. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Drain excess fat.
Slice potatoes into thin rounds.
In a bowl, mix soup, milk, and optional paprika or herbs.
Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish, then all the beef, then the remaining potatoes.
Pour soup mixture evenly over the top. Cover tightly with foil.
Bake covered for 60 minutes.
Uncover, top with shredded cheese, and bake another 15–20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Slice potatoes thin for even cooking.
Add vegetables like mushrooms or peppers between layers.
Use turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.
