Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 34 medium potatoes, thinly sliced

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • Optional: 1/2 tsp paprika

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Brown ground beef with onion in a skillet. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Drain excess fat.

  • Slice potatoes into thin rounds.

  • In a bowl, mix soup, milk, and optional paprika or herbs.

  • Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish, then all the beef, then the remaining potatoes.

  • Pour soup mixture evenly over the top. Cover tightly with foil.

  • Bake covered for 60 minutes.

  • Uncover, top with shredded cheese, and bake another 15–20 minutes until bubbly and golden.

  • Rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes thin for even cooking.

  • Add vegetables like mushrooms or peppers between layers.

  • Use turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.
