Quick & Easy Homemade Butter Chicken Recipe – Flavorful Indian Delight is a creamy tomato-based chicken dish simmered with warm spices and finished with rich cream for a comforting and satisfying meal.
1 1/2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs cut into pieces
3/4 cup plain full-fat yogurt
4 cloves garlic minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
2 teaspoons garam masala
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt plus more to taste
2 tablespoons butter divided
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 small onion finely chopped
1 1/2 cups tomato puree or crushed tomatoes
1/2 to 3/4 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon sugar optional
Fresh cilantro chopped for garnish
In a bowl mix yogurt garlic ginger garam masala cumin coriander turmeric paprika chili powder and salt. Add chicken and coat well. Marinate for at least 20 minutes.
Heat oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken in a single layer until lightly browned on both sides. Remove and set aside.
In the same pan add remaining butter and cook chopped onion until soft and lightly golden.
Stir in a small pinch of garam masala and paprika then add tomato puree. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until slightly thickened.
Add sugar if needed to balance acidity. Return chicken to the pan and simmer on low for 8 to 10 minutes until fully cooked.
Reduce heat and stir in heavy cream. Simmer gently for 3 to 5 minutes. Adjust salt and garnish with cilantro before serving.
