A baked comfort dish inspired by smashburgers, featuring seasoned beef, melted cheese, crispy tater tots, and smoky bacon in every bite.
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, finely diced
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
Salt and black pepper, to taste
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots
½ cup chopped dill pickles (optional)
Optional sauce: mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish
Preheat oven to 425°F.
Brown ground beef in a skillet; season well.
Add onion and cook until softened. Drain excess fat.
Spread beef mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Sprinkle cheese over the beef and add pickles if using.
Arrange frozen tater tots evenly on top.
Bake 25–30 minutes until tots are golden and cheese bubbles.
Sprinkle bacon over the top during the last 5 minutes.
Rest briefly, then serve with optional sauce.
